Divorce turns ugly

My divorce from my husband was ugly.

There were issues with infidelity, disputes over possessions and accusations about money.

Thankfully, we didn’t have kids together. Dividing up our very limited assets was difficult enough. Although we had purchased over vehicles and home in both of our names, my husband hadn’t worked or contributed any income in over five years. When he was injured in a car accident, I paid his extensive medical bills and was responsible for our higher insurance premiums. I got stuck with a significant amount of credit card debt that was entirely his doing. By the time we filed for divorce, I was ready to get away from him as soon as possible. As our arguments over what to do with the house escalated, my husband became very spiteful. He deliberately caused damage to the house to drive the market price down. He was so consumed with anger that he didn’t care that he was also undermining his own profit. He only cared about making it impossible for me to walk away with anything. He broke windows, knocked holes in the walls, removed appliances and poured cement down the drains. He caused all of the damage while I was at work. Although I called the cops and filed charges, it was too late. The house was no longer in any condition to sell through conventional methods. At that point, I wasn’t all that concerned with making a profit. I simply wanted to cut all ties with my former husband and get away from him. The solution was a cash home buyer. A local Jacksonville cash home buyer provided a no-obligation, same-day offer on the house. I promised to drop the charges against my husband and if he would accept the offer and go along with the sale.
